Help Me Pick My Next Travel Destination

A couple of days ago, I asked on twitter, "Where would you go in Europe and why?" I got some amazing responses. Next year, the hubby and I are going to take a week long vacation to Europe, instead of our usual week long cruise to the Caribbean *camwepleasedoboth?*

I've thought of these places...

-London, England or other cities in England
-Paris, France
-Venice and/or Rome, Italy or other cities in Italy
-Prague, Czech Republic
-Greece
-Scotland
-Amsterdam
-Germany
-Ireland
-Croatia
-Spain

I know, I know... I really narrowed it down. I've also wanted to go to London, Paris, and Venice. I'd really love to go to all of those places one day, but I have to start with one.

So, I'm going to ask here on my blog...

If you could go to anywhere in Europe for a week, where would it be and why? If you have been somewhere in Europe, please share your experiences.

Love this! The picture in your post is actually of a small town in the Cinque Terre in Italy. It consists of 5 cities on the Mediterranean that you can hike between. My mom and I did that a couple years back and LOVED it! It is so gorgeous there!! Hope you have fun where ever you go!

I lived in Europe for three years as a teenager... Honestly, you don't need a whole week in Scotland, or even in Venice. If you do Italy, you can easily rent a car and drive between several cities (we did Venice, Florence, Assisi, Rome/Vatican City) in 10 days that way. If you go to London, you could definitely spread your time 50/50 between London and Paris by taking the Chunnel across to Paris for a day or two! Good luck and holler if you have other questions...I'd be happy to put together a list of "must see" places when you decide where to go!

I would go back to Greece if I could. Plus I still want to visit those other places too. We spent a week cruising around the Greek islands on a yacht. The trip was amazing and didn't disappoint. Here's a link to one of my favorite photos from the trip: Cool Photo Esther Norine Designs

You guys will have a great time. Paris is amazing, it's been my favorite. So much history and pretty things to see. Of course there is the shopping and the food too. Those don't hurt at all! I also enjoyed Venice because it's also has a lot of history, but it's so different than anywhere else being a city on top of water and all :) And again...the food! I die!

Rome is my favorite city I've ever visited. I did a study abroad in Italy and I've been back several times. I just love the culture and the scenery. Last year, Fred and I went to Italy in December and the weather was perfect and the lines to places were much shorter than in the summer. It's an amazing place.

I've also been to Greece, Spain, London, and Paris.

I've only been to London and Dylan and I want to go together someday. Ireland is the next on our list! We'll make it there eventually. Can't wait to hear what you decide!

GREECE! I've been there 3 times and love it more and more each time I go. The food and culture is wonderful, and I love the history of it too.

I've use to live in England so I would vote for there! London is such a great city and it's not too much of a culture shock if you've never been to Europe. Their train system makes it really easy to visit attractions and other cities.

I have traveled extensively all over Europe and lived in Scotland for a bit. You've gotta ask this question of yourself before you can really choose: Are you a landmarks kind of traveler or an immersion in culture kind of traveler? If you want to see famous landmarks and as many as possible, you could easily do Scotland, London, Paris, Germany, Italy in one trip. However, if you'd like to settle in one spot and really soak it up, I'd suggest picking a corner of Europe: something like England-Scotland-Wales or Spain-France or Italy-Greece. My favorite spots (because I was least likely to be price gouged as a tourist) were Edinburgh, Barcelona, Strasbourg (like France and Germany all in one!, Amalfi Coast. Happy to share suggested spots once you pick.

By the way, Eastern Europe is AMAZING, but I wouldn't suggest it if you're not 100% sure you're a savvy international traveler (it's not a safety issue so much - it's just tougher to get around there and you've got to really know how to blend in) or without getting your feet wet in Western Euro first. I spent a lot of time in Czech Republic (then) and Turkey and that was a true experience!

I haven't been anywhere in Europe, but I think my vote would be for either England or Ireland. :)

I've been to Holland, Norway, and Scotland. Loved them all. We took a cruise through the Norwegian fjords and I have ne'er seen anything more breathtaking! I want to go to the Mediterranean the most and Greece is on the top of my list!

2 words for you: Mediterranean cruise. We just did one this summer. It started in Venice and we went to Athens, Santorini and Argostoli Greece (plus a couple of other places) If I had to choose to go back to one, I would choose either Santorini or Argostoli (Myrtos beach, Google it) Any questions? Just let me know, I'd be happy to pass along the information I have for traveling in Europe :)

Behold then Septimus Dodge returning to Dodge-town victorious. Not crowned with laurel, it is true, but wreathed in lists of things he has seen and sucked dry. Seen and sucked dry, you know: Venus de Milo, the Rhine or the Coliseum: swallowed like so many clams, and left the shells.
