*Keeping My Fingers Crossed*

I'm not able to tell David my good news, since he is in the field. So, I am going to share with you, my bloggy friends. You'll be the first to know :)

I started calling around to places to find a practicum for the fall. That's really the last thing I wanted to do to start my day. It's a good thing that I have the resource guide, so I have countless opportunities. It is 66 pages long! I must have waited a little bit late too call. It was my fault, because I didn't started calling, until 3pm. For a couple of the places, I had to leave a message.

My first choice was at a Veteran's Center. The guy on the phone took a lot of information from me to give to his boss. We probably talked about five minutes. He called me back, and said there wasn't any room. They weren't going to accept any students, since they are in the process of relocating. He said right now that situation is temporary, but they should be able to take students later. I told him that I would be needing another in the spring, and he said I could keep them in mind. I was so bummed. I was glad he called me back, like he said he was going to do. Hopefully, I will be able to do it in the spring.

Then, I was calling one of the Rape Crisis centers, and I misdialed the number. Instead of dialing XXX-253-XXX, I dialed XXX 252-XXXX. When the woman answered, she just said, 'Hello, how can I help you?" I thought it was a little odd, since usually people identify the place of the facility. Well, I went into my spill about finding a practicum. She said that I must have dialed the wrong number. I said, 'Isn't this ......?" She said, "No, that this was ....... ESCORT SERVICE. I was so embarrassed. She probably thought, "What the heck?" Well, now I know the number if anyone ever needs one lol. Wonder if that is the one that my ex worked at (it was years after we broke up)? Now, that is a different story for a different day.

I found the mistake, and left a message. The woman called me back, and I talked about what I needed in a practicum, regarding client-contact hours. I wasn't home, so I couldn't give her that information. She said that she needed to know, because they couldn't guarantee a certain number of hours of client-contact. I just know that we have to have 150 hours for the practicum. I told her that I would give her a call back, and let her know tomorrow. She also said for me to fill out an application. If all that works out with the client-contact hours, that one seems promising as well.

I called another place that deals with chemical dependency, and it happens to be really close to my school. We talked on the phone for a few minutes, and I get to come in for an INTERVIEW!!!!! My interview is on Thursday at 3pm. She wants to see if I will be a good fit. Hopefully, she will think so. It would be a relief to have that out of the way. Plus, I'll be right near the school on Fridays, when I have class.

I'm not going to put all my eggs in one basket. I'm going to try again tomorrow. I'm surprised that I got an interview so quick. Not only are students in my program competing for practicums, but so are the people in all the surrounding major universities.

Also, the school advisor said that if you do a good job, chances are they will likely hire you. She has seen it happen almost every time.

I've got my fingers crossed for you! What are you getting your graduate degree in? I just recently graduated (in December of last year) with a BA in Psychology & I want to go back & get my Masters in Social Work so bad! I volunteered for a Rape Crisis Center for several months after graduating in hopes that it would open some doors, but it didn't - or hasn't so far. I hope you find something soon!
